Wordpress

WordPress is a state-of-the-art publishing platform with a focus on aesthetics, web standards, and usability. It is best known as a Blog type CMS used by hundreds of thousands of blogs and communities on the internet.

Ease of Use

It is simply one of the easiest to use Blog CMS systems! From installation, creating and managing content, to keeping your cms up-to-date! Wordpress gets FULL ratings here!

Learning Curve

If you have no experience with CMS systems Wordpress should be no problem. It has a simple, clean interface and really is a piece of cake! I doubt there is a Blog CMS easier to pickup than Wordpress. Even when it comes to installing new plugins, backing up your data it is a breeze.

Features

Wordpress comes packed with features ready to go! One of my favourite features is how plugins can be automatically updated when new versions are published! At the core, wordpress offers:

  • Full W3C Standards compliance
  • Allows multiple authors, good user management
  • Cross-blog communication tools
  • SPAM Protection against posts and comments
  • Excellent Plugins and Theme Manager!
  • Easy backup and upgrades
Wordpress is also very stable and seems to have a very active development community working at making it even better.

Online Support

Wordpress loses some points here as they use a custom forum system which could be more effective and easier to maintain. I have had some posts never answered and your messages can easily become burried in the vast pages of their forums. (I am actually experiencing forum authentication difficulties and can not log in to their forums). But saying that it does seem the forum community is active and friendly so perhaps just be patient or as for support on the vast 3rd party wordpress support websites! Smile

Available Mods

Since the start of Wordpress in 2003, it has grown and matured into a awesome blogging CMS system. And so have the extensions. There are hundreds of plugins available for wordpress on their own website or from many third party developers. Plugins are very easily installed and managed. Recent versions of Wordpress now even allow you to automatically update your plugins from within your control panel! (no more download and uploading updates!).This auto-update feature really is awesome and every CMS should have it.

Available Themes

There is a abundance of themes available for wordpress! From the wordpress website or just type in: "theme wordpress" in google and you will find your treasure! Or look for my good links at the bottom of this page! Smile
