As a little boy it was a dream of mine to become a pilot. Although it never happened in the real world I do enjoy flying the odd airplanes in Microsoft's Flight Simulator X! It is the most realist flight simulator game available and probably the closest you will get to flying the real thing.

Microsoft Flight Simulator (FSX) has a built in tutorial that will teach any user how to fly a airplane, from planning your trip, learning the basic instruments to flying big commercial aircrafts like the boeing 737 and 747!
Scenery Addons
FSX is capable of loading third party scenery addons, effects, planes etc and there is a big community out there supporting it! Coming from Perth, Australia I have found many addons for my area, mesh updates that put proper buildings and scenery in-place instead of automatically generated ones.
