Drupal

Drupal is a free software package that allows an individual or a community of users to easily publish, manage and organize a wide variety of content on a website. Tens of thousands of people and organizations are using Drupal to power scores of different web sites.

Ease of Use

Drupal is one of the more complex CMS Systems I've used. Although it's easy to publish information at a basic level it gets quite complicated if you dwelve into advanced layouts and design. Nevertheless it's a very popular CMS System and can be used to create a great website but perhaps this type of CMS is more suited for developers, programmers or individuals with a good understanding of how it works. I would steer beginners away from Drupal.

Learning Curve

The learning curve with drupal is quite complex, not only when trying to comprehend all the new terms in their glossary such as nodes, taxonomy but even the main drupal website is somewhat complex in the way that their forums, modules and themes are handled. Frankly I had several headaches trying to figure out how to accomplish several goals I had in mind which I was able to do easily with other CMS Systems.

Features

Although it may not seem like Joomla comes bundled with endless features it does have all the core essentials you may need to create a website. Third party addons are in abundance so no worries there. Joomla's core comes with:

  • Friendly URLs
  • Great user management
  • Good Blogging Tools
  • Plenty of Extra Modules Available

Online Support

This is where Drupal could improve. Their support forums are very cluttered, basic and I believe ineffective. I believe a good forum system would really encourage community to participate further.

Available Modules/Extensions

Drupal hosts a huge database of modules and this is probably the best thing drupal has going for it. Although again we are let down with the way the modules are displayed.

Available Themes

There doesn't seem a huge amounts of websites dedicated towards producing 'Premium' themes for Drupal but if you look hard there are some websites available.
